Product feed optimization · the image column included

Feed optimization that does not stop at the title tag.

Every feed optimization guide covers the same ground: fix the titles, fill the attributes, split the campaigns. All correct, all necessary, and all of it operates on text you already have. The half nobody optimizes is the image column, because optimizing it means making new images.

The two halves of a product feed

A feed row is text and pictures. The text half is a rules problem: naming conventions, required attributes, category mapping, deduplication, and keeping the price and availability honest against the landing page. Good feed management software does this well and we are not pretending otherwise.

The picture half is a production problem. image_link and up to ten additional_image_link entries per row, per variant, and for apparel that means a correct image for every colorway. No rules engine can generate a frame that does not exist. That is why most optimized feeds are text optimized and image neglected.

What we optimize on the text side

Titles written the way shoppers search instead of the way your PIM names things. Apparel attributes filled on every variant, because color, size, age_group and gender are mandatory in that category and a blank field is a rejection. Category mapping checked. Descriptions written per item rather than pasted from a supplier sheet. This is the Enriched Catalog product doing the boring work properly.

What we optimize on the image side, which is the part that is missing

One photograph per garment goes in. What comes back is the set a product page and a feed actually want: the garment on a model, on a form, and flat, plus variant-correct frames per colorway. Up to 60 items by 8 model or form selections in one job.

Every frame carries its measurement. Color is compared against your own photograph, so a variant listed as slate is verifiably slate. On the documented file, color difference went from ΔE00 9.03 as returned by the engine to 1.29 as delivered, and across the 240 delivered frames of the 2026-08-18 run, the 220 that carried a measurement had a median of 2.87 returned and 0.68 delivered. The other 20 were withheld rather than guessed.

Six named standards gate every file. A frame that misses one is named, not shipped, and not charged.

Why the image column is worth the trouble

In a shopper survey by Stylitics, 76% named on-model photography the most helpful format for deciding on a garment, whether the image was human or AI made. That is a preference finding from their research, not a performance claim from us. What it means operationally is narrow and useful: the format shoppers say they want is the format most apparel feeds do not carry, because producing it per variant has been too slow.

Feed work is one link

Optimizing a feed is upstream work. It feeds Shopping, catalog ads and Performance Max, and what those surfaces do with it is a creative question. We cover creative intelligence, strategy, production and campaign management, with computer-vision models trained on 32M+ ads and $200M+ in managed ad spend behind the reading. Feed tools cover one link.

What is product feed optimization?

Product feed optimization is improving the data and imagery in your product feed so listings get approved and compete: accurate required attributes, titles written the way shoppers search, correct category mapping, and a correct image for every variant rather than one image shared across colorways.

What is the difference between feed management and feed optimization?

Feed management is the pipeline: pulling from your store, transforming to each channel's format, and pushing on a schedule. Optimization is improving what travels through it. A managed feed can be perfectly delivered and still be a thin listing.

Common questions

What is a product feed?
A structured file of your catalog, one row per item, that advertising and shopping channels read. Each row carries text attributes and one or more image URLs.
Can you optimize a feed without touching my store?
Yes. Enrichment happens on the catalog and the generated imagery is delivered as files, so it can be applied to the feed without editing product records if you prefer.
Do you replace my feed management tool?
No. If a feed tool is already handling delivery and scheduling, keep it. The gap we fill is the content in the rows, especially the image columns.
How many images should a variant have?
More than the one it usually has. A feed row supports one primary and up to ten additional images, and for apparel each colorway needs its own correct primary.
How fast is a run?
5 to 7 days to delivery, first output usually day five, up to 60 items per job, 100+ creatives a month on plan.
What does it cost?
From $299 a month self-serve, from $5,000 a month managed, or 5% of ad spend at a $5,000 a month minimum on a 6-month term. A failed item is not charged.
The ask

Send five rows.

Pick five SKUs from your live feed, including the variants that share an image. You get back the enriched rows and the variant-correct frames, with the measured color difference attached to each file.
