What product photography costs, and what you are actually buying.
The honest answer to “how much does product photography cost” is that it depends on which of three different things you mean: a flat shot, a model shoot, or a lifestyle set. They are priced an order of magnitude apart. Here are the market numbers, then ours, then the part nobody quotes.
From $299 a month self-serve
From $5,000 a month managed
100+ creatives a month
5 to 7 days to delivery
What the market charges, per product
These are merchants' own benchmarks, from a Shopify Community thread where brand owners compared what they pay. They are not our prices and not our research:
| What you are buying | Reported range, per product |
|---|---|
| Basic flat lay or mannequin | $10 to $30 |
| Studio shoot on a model | $100 to $500+ |
| Lifestyle set | $500 to $2,000+ |
The same thread names the reason the question gets asked at all: “This adds up fast, especially for small to mid-sized brands that drop new collections often.”

The cost nobody quotes, which is time
Industry write-ups on the photoshoot bottleneck put a traditional shoot at 2 to 4 weeks from booking to edited images. The delay that hurts is not the shoot day, it is the dependency chain around it. As merchants describe it: when a sample arrives late or changes, the shoot happens again. And a brand cannot always book a model shoot for a small drop on a tight schedule.
There is a second cost hiding in the per-product number. It is quoted per shot, and a product page needs more than one shot, and a catalog needs it per colorway. The first image is rarely the bottleneck. The next fifty are.
What we charge
| Plan | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Self-serve platform | From $299 a month | You run it. 100+ creatives a month. |
| Managed | From $5,000 a month | An AI plus human pod runs it with you. |
| Productized | 5% of ad spend, $5,000 a month minimum | 6-month minimum term. 2% premium add-on available. |
Not per shot. 100+ creatives a month, 5 to 7 day turnaround with first output usually on day five, up to 60 items by 8 model selections in a single job. A failed item is not charged and a retry bills only the item retried, which is the part of a rate card that normally does not exist.
Roughly half the cost of building the same capacity in house, and 30 to 40% below premium creative subscription services.
When per-shot pricing is the right answer
Say it plainly, because a pricing page that pretends otherwise is not credible. If you have eight hero products a year, a photographer is cheaper and better. If you need a specific human being, a specific location, or a campaign image that has to be exactly one thing, book the shoot. Monthly capacity is the right shape when the volume is continuous and the tail is long: seasonal drops, variant explosion, marketplace listings, feeds that want a correct image per colorway.
What the price includes that a shoot quote does not
Every delivered file carries its numbers: which engine made it, which of your photographs it came from, and how far the color moved. On the documented file, ΔE00 went from 9.03 as returned by the engine to 1.29 as delivered, and across the 240 delivered frames of the 2026-08-18 run, the 220 that carried a measurement had a median of 2.87 returned and 0.68 delivered. Six named standards gate every frame, and a frame that misses one is named rather than quietly shipped.
Photography is one link
The shoot is one line item in a longer chain. Deciding what to shoot, reading what worked, and running the campaign are separate jobs that usually get separate vendors. We cover the chain: creative intelligence, creative strategy, production, influencer marketing at scale and campaign management, with $200M+ in ad spend managed and computer-vision models trained on 32M+ ads. A photographer covers one link, and so does a template tool.
How much does product photography cost?
Merchants on Shopify's community forum report $10 to $30 per product for basic flat lay or mannequin shots, $100 to $500 or more for a studio shoot on a model, and $500 to $2,000 or more for lifestyle sets. Industry write-ups put shoot turnaround at 2 to 4 weeks.
Is AI product photography cheaper than a photographer?
For a handful of hero images, no: a photographer is cheaper and gives you more control. For continuous catalog volume it changes shape rather than price, from per shot to per month. Monthly plans start at $299 self-serve and $5,000 managed for 100+ creatives.
