Product listing optimization makes each product's title, description, images and data clear enough for search engines, marketplaces and AI answers to match it to the right query. Google says its AI features need no special files or markup, only an indexed page that is eligible for a snippet. AEO is the same work, aimed at answers.

Product page SEO and AEO read the same four parts, and all four have to agree. Google asks that structured data match what the page shows.
The product, the brand and a key attribute such as size or color. Shoppers usually see the first 70.
Key details in the first 160 to 500. No prices, promotions, links or words in all capitals.
Images that show what the title says, with alt text that describes each frame.
A name, an image and an offer with a price and a currency for merchant listings, matching the visible page.
Generated stand-inTitle limits. Source Description limits. Source Merchant listing markup. Source Google on AEO, GEO and AI features. Source
Start from what buyers type and ask. Then make every part of the listing answer it the same way.
The terms they search, the questions in reviews and Q&A, and the attributes they filter by.
Titles written from the internal product name, which nobody searches for.
Our team: we pull search terms, review language and questions for each category and map them to your products.
Key details first and one product per title. Product description SEO is mostly plain sentences that answer what buyers ask.
Titles stuffed with every keyword, and a description pasted from the supplier.
Our team: we rewrite titles and descriptions to each channel's limits, and you approve them.
Software: the catalog tools shorten titles to fit ad templates. They don't write listing copy.
The images show what the title says: the color, the size and the parts. Alt text describes each one.
The title says black, and the main image shows silver.
Software: product and lifestyle images from one photo of each color you sell.
Our team: we write alt text for every image.
Product structured data on your own site, matching the visible page, and the same facts in every feed.
Markup copied from a template, with a price that no longer matches the page.
You: add Product markup to your product pages, or turn on the markup your store platform provides.
Our team: we check the titles, descriptions and markup against each other before handover.
These are the usual gaps in SEO for product pages. A buyer can see every one of them, and so can a search engine.
| Problem | Why it happens | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Key details cut off | The title opens with a brand slogan | Fix it by putting the product, an attribute and the size in the first 70 characters |
| A promo in the description | The copy was pasted from an ad | Fix it by keeping prices, promotions and shipping out of the description |
| Markup that disagrees | The structured data wasn't updated with the page | Fix it by building the markup from the same data as the visible page |
| Images that contradict the title | One color's photo sits on every variant | Fix it by giving each variant its own image and alt text |
| Questions left unanswered | The description lists features and answers nothing | Fix it by answering the review questions in plain sentences |
| Writing for machines | Pages get split into chunks or padded with keywords | Fix it by writing for buyers, since Google says AI features need no special files or markup |

Product listing optimization is the work of making a product's title, description, images, attributes and structured data clear and consistent, so search engines, marketplaces and AI answers can match it to the right query. It covers your own store, marketplaces such as Amazon and feeds such as Google Merchant Center, each with its own limits on length and content.
Amazon listing optimization starts with the title: put the product, its key attribute and its size first. Write bullets that each answer one buyer question, fill every attribute Amazon asks for in your category, and use the image slots: a pure-white main image, then lifestyle, detail, scale and an infographic. If your brand is in Brand Registry, add A+ content to the detail page.
AEO, or answer engine optimization, is work aimed at being cited in AI answers such as Google's AI Overviews and chat assistants. For an ecommerce brand, it means product pages and feeds that state the facts plainly: what the product is, who it's for, its size, materials and price. Google treats AEO as part of SEO and says no special files are needed.
Answer real buyer questions in plain sentences on the product page, keep the title, description, images and price consistent everywhere, and add Product structured data that matches the visible page. Keep your Merchant Center feed complete, since Google says feeds help products appear in AI responses. Google also says to skip tricks like chunking content or adding llms.txt files.
In Google Merchant Center, a title can run to 150 characters, but shoppers usually see only the first 70 or so, so put the product type, the brand and the key attribute first. Amazon sets its own limits by category. On every channel, keep one product per title and leave promotional text out of it.
Our team does, as part of the Enriched Catalog service: titles, descriptions and alt text rewritten to each channel's limits, checked against the images and the markup, and approved by you. The QuickAds software makes the product and lifestyle images, and its catalog tools shorten titles for ad templates. It doesn't rewrite listings or write to your store.
QuickAds is a performance creative company that runs the whole chain: creative intelligence, creative strategy, creative production, influencer marketing and campaign management. Listing optimization draws on intelligence and production at once. For feeds, see product feed optimization, and for the image slots, Amazon product photography.
