Shopify product photography is the set of images on each product in your store: the one shown in collections, then the gallery on the product page. Shopify recommends 2048 by 2048 pixels for square images and accepts up to 5,000 by 5,000 and 20 MB. Each product holds up to 250 images, videos and 3D models.

Shopify images have generous limits. The real work is keeping one shape and one look across every product, so collection pages line up.
Shopify's recommendation for square product images. The ceiling is 5,000 by 5,000 pixels, or 25 megapixels.
PNG is Shopify's pick. JPEG, WebP, HEIC and others work too, animated GIF and WebP included.
Images, videos and 3D models together. A video runs up to 10 minutes and 1 GB.
Read aloud by screen readers and shown if an image fails to load. The cap is 512.

Start from what's already in the store. Each product gets a clean main image, then scenes for the gallery.
List the products that need new images first: the best sellers, the new drops and the ones with a single photo.
A photographer gets a list of 30 SKUs, and the rest of the catalog keeps its supplier photos.
Software: upload one photo per product, or, for bags and luggage, a sheet or a Drive folder for a catalog run. The QuickAds Shopify app isn't on the Shopify App Store yet.
Our team: we pick which products to start with, from where your traffic goes.
A clean cutout on a plain background, with the product at the same size in every frame.
Supplier photos on different backgrounds, so the collection page looks like five stores.
Software: background removal gives a transparent cutout, and product scenes come out in one of 10 aspect ratios, square among them.
Our team: we place each cutout on your background at one size across the range.
Scenes, close-ups and a person for scale. A catalog run gives one to six angles per product.
For most of the catalog, the gallery stops at the main image.
Software: product scenes one product at a time at up to 1536 pixels, or a catalog run of bags or luggage from a sheet at 1K, 2K or 4K. Only the 2K and 4K runs reach Shopify's 2048 recommendation.
Our team: we plan the gallery order for each product type.
Add the images to each product in the Shopify admin, attach each variant to its own image, and write alt text that says what's in the frame.
Alt text left blank, or set to the file name.
You: upload in the Shopify admin, or by CSV for many products. QuickAds doesn't write images to your store.
Our team: we deliver the files named by product, with alt text for each one.
None of these break a Shopify rule. They break the collection page, the zoom or the variant picker.
| Problem | Why it happens | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Mixed shapes | Products came from different suppliers and shoots | Fix it with one shape across the store, usually square |
| Too small to zoom | Images were exported at web size, well under Shopify's 2048 recommendation | Fix it by uploading the largest original, up to 5,000 pixels on a side |
| One image on every variant | Variants were added after the shoot | Fix it by attaching each variant to its own image |
| Blank alt text | Images were uploaded in bulk | Fix it with alt text of 125 characters or fewer that describes the frame |
| Files too heavy | Exports came straight from the camera, uncompressed | Fix it by exporting under 20 MB, Shopify's limit |
| A gallery of one | Only the supplier photo exists | Fix it with scenes, close-ups and a scale shot made from that photo |
Every limit is from the Shopify Help Center, read on October 21, 2026.
The best size for Shopify product images is 2048 by 2048 pixels for a square, Shopify's own recommendation. It accepts images up to 5,000 by 5,000 pixels, or 25 megapixels, under 20 MB. Square is the common choice because it keeps collection pages even, but what matters most is one shape for every product in the store. Upload the largest original you have.
Use a product CSV: put each image's public URL in the image column, one row per image, and import the file from the Products page in the Shopify admin. Shopify fetches the images from those links. You can also drag several files onto a product's media section at once. Name the files by product and variant first so they're easy to match.
Upload all the images to the product first. Then open each variant on the product page in the Shopify admin and pick its image from the product's media. Give every color its own photo; otherwise a shopper who picks navy still sees the black one.
Keep one shape across the store, upload the largest original you have, up to 5,000 pixels on a side, and stay under 20 MB per file. Give each variant its own image, write alt text of 125 characters or fewer, and name each file for what's in it. Shopify accepts WebP as well as PNG and JPEG.
Open the product in the Shopify admin, select an image in its media section and add the alt text in the media editor. Alt text can run to 512 characters, and Shopify recommends 125 or fewer. Describe what's in the frame: the product, its color and the setting. Alt text can also be uploaded by CSV for many products at once.
Not through the Shopify App Store yet: the QuickAds Shopify app isn't listed there today. The image tools work from any product photo, so you upload the photos you have and add the new images to your products in the Shopify admin or by CSV. Nothing from QuickAds writes images or text to your store.
QuickAds is a performance creative company that runs the whole chain: creative intelligence, creative strategy, creative production, influencer marketing and campaign management.
