Finding UGC creators, 2026

How to find UGC creators, free routes and paid ones.

Eight steps to find, vet and hire UGC creators, starting with the routes that cost nothing. Prices come from each platform's own pricing page, and the market figures from our 2026 creator sourcing research.

In short

To find UGC creators, write down what the video needs, then search where creators already work. TikTok and Instagram search, r/UGCcreators and the TikTok One and Instagram creator marketplaces cost nothing. Paid platforms like JoinBrands, Billo and Insense are faster. Vet each portfolio, then agree the rate, usage rights and deadline in writing.

Key takeaways

  • Free routes work but cost time: writing eighty opening messages by hand and chasing the fifty-five who never reply takes roughly eight hours.
  • Follower count does not set a UGC rate. A creator with 3,000 followers and one with 300,000 can quote the same price for the same brief.
  • Paid platforms start at $25 a video on JoinBrands and $99 on Billo, before fees and rights.
  • Budget 15% to 20% overage. Roughly one in five briefed creators delivers nothing usable.
  • Get paid usage in writing before filming. Three months of paid social can take a $250 video to $437.50.

Step by step

How to find UGC creators in eight steps.

Do them in order. The first step decides how fast the rest go, and steps six and seven are where most brands lose money.

Step 01

Write the creator spec before you search

Decide the category, the kind of person, how they should come across on camera, the deliverables (length, number of hooks, aspect ratios), where the video will run and for how long, your budget per video and the deadline. A usable brief takes two to four hours per concept, so do it once and reuse it. For budget, single edited UGC videos average $150 to $212 on published 2026 rates.

Step 02

Search TikTok and Instagram for free

Search TikTok for "ugc creator" plus your niche, and Instagram hashtags such as #ugccreator and #ugccommunity. Most working creators link a portfolio in their bio. Watch recent posts, not the pinned ones. Small followings are fine: UGC is bought for the content, and the creator usually never posts it. The cost is time, because every contact is a cold message.

Step 03

Post a brief where creators look for work

r/UGCcreators is mostly creators, which is the point: a clear post with the product, deliverables and rate draws applications. Read the subreddit rules first. TikTok One's Creator Marketplace lets advertisers search creators and run Open Applications, where creators pitch with a proposed fee; creators there need 10,000+ followers, so it skews toward influencers. Instagram's creator marketplace sits in Meta Business Suite; brands need a verified business portfolio and an Instagram account linked to a Facebook Page.

Step 04

Use a UGC platform when you need speed

Marketplaces do the sourcing, contracts and payments. JoinBrands starts at $25 a video plus a 15% platform fee, Billo from $99 a video in packs, Trend from about $69 to $92 a video in prepaid credits, and Insense from $500 a month plus 7% to 20% on each creator payment. You still write the brief and pick the creator. Our comparison of the best UGC platforms lays out each one's fees.

Step 05

Hand the sourcing to an agent or an agency

If nobody on your team has the hours, hand it over. Remy, the QuickAds influencer agent, searches Instagram, YouTube and TikTok from a plain-English description, messages creators from your own handle and negotiates under a cap you set, at $129 per UGC video with the creator fee inside it. Managed UGC agencies commonly charge $4,000 to $8,000 a month for a package.

Step 06

Vet every creator before you book

Spend about fifteen minutes per creator. Watch three or four samples for delivery, not polish. Check engagement against their tier: 200,000 followers with 200 to 400 likes is 0.1% to 0.2%, far below the 1% to 3% typical band. Look at follower growth (bought followers arrive in steps), whether comments mention the post, and where the audience lives. For creators who will post, price on views: a 112,000-follower account averaging 9,600 views costs $102 per thousand views at its asking rate, against $49 for a 46,800-follower account averaging 15,100.

Step 07

Agree the rate, rights and deadline in writing

A base rate normally covers limited organic use. Paid social use commonly adds 20% to 30% of the base rate per month, whitelisting from the creator's handle 30% to 100% per month, and raw footage 30% to 50%. Write the delivery date and revision rounds into the deal, and add a line requiring disclosure of any AI-generated performance: New York's synthetic performer law took effect on 9 June 2026.

Step 08

Test small, then build a roster

Start with three to five creators on one format. Approve cuts within 48 hours and ship product fast, because creators choose repeat clients on clear briefs, quick approvals and product that arrives. Move the ones who deliver onto a retainer, typically $2,000 to $8,000 a month for four to twelve deliverables at 15% to 30% below one-off rates, and budget 15% to 20% overage for briefs that go nowhere.

Outreach

The first message that gets a reply.

Most creators decide in one read whether a brand is worth answering. This is the shape that works for cold outreach.

Example first message

Short, specific, priced

"Hi Maya, I run growth at a sulfate-free shampoo brand. Your shower-routine video from last week is the tone we want. We are booking three creators for a 30-second testimonial-style ad with two hook variations, shot 9:16. The budget is $250 per video, including 90 days of paid use on Meta. Product ships within two days of a yes and we need the cut by the 14th. Want the full brief?"

What it does

Answers the creator's questions first

  • Names one of their videos, so it reads as a person, not a mass blast.
  • States the rate and the usage up front. Creators price paid use separately, so leaving it out restarts the negotiation later.
  • Gives the deadline and the shipping date. Product that arrives fast is one of the main reasons creators take repeat work.
  • Ends on one easy question. Send it on the channel they answer: DMs on Instagram and TikTok, the listed business email on YouTube.
How many to contact. Cold outreach is a numbers game. On a typical hand-run campaign, eighty opening messages leave about fifty-five unanswered. To land three to five test creators, plan to contact twenty or more, and keep the brief ready before the first reply comes in.
Common mistakes

Four ways hiring UGC creators goes wrong.

These come up in almost every creator program we see, and each has a cheap fix.

  • Shortlisting on followers. UGC rates are set by the deliverable and the usage scope, which is why a 200-follower creator can fairly charge $200 to $300 for a strong testimonial. See what is UGC for the distinction.
  • Buying the video and forgetting the licence. A $150 video with no paid rights can cost more than a $250 video with 90-day paid rights once you license what you need. Our UGC rates page has the maths.
  • Starting from zero every quarter. A retained creator removes the sourcing time and the fraud check and needs less briefing every round.
  • Leaving approvals for a week. Approving within 48 hours is repeatedly named as the reason good creators come back.

Questions

Finding and hiring UGC creators, answered.

Market figures come from our 2026 sourcing research and published rate data. Platform prices are from each vendor's pricing page, checked October 2026.

How do you find UGC creators?

Write the creator spec first, then search TikTok and Instagram for "ugc creator" plus your niche, post a brief on r/UGCcreators, or use the TikTok One and Instagram creator marketplaces. For speed, use a UGC platform or an agent. Vet each portfolio and agree rate, rights and deadline in writing before filming.

Where can I find UGC content creators?

Free places: TikTok and Instagram search, the #ugccreator hashtag, r/UGCcreators, TikTok One's Creator Marketplace and Instagram's creator marketplace in Meta Business Suite. Paid places: UGC platforms such as JoinBrands, Billo, Insense, Trend and Collabstr, an agent like Remy, or a managed UGC agency.

How do I hire a UGC creator?

Send a brief with the product, deliverables, usage and deadline. Agree a rate, the usage rights (paid social, duration, whitelisting), revision rounds and a delivery date in writing. Ship the product, approve within 48 hours, and pay through escrow or on delivery. Platforms and agents handle the contract and payment for you.

How much does it cost to hire a UGC creator?

A single edited UGC video averages $150 to $212 on published 2026 rates, with beginners at $75 to $300 and top performers above $600. Paid usage usually adds 20% to 30% of the base rate per month. Platforms start at $25 a video plus fees; QuickAds is $129 with the creator fee included.

Can I find UGC creators for free?

Yes, you can find them free on TikTok, Instagram, r/UGCcreators and the TikTok One and Instagram creator marketplaces, but you still pay the creator and you spend the time. Gifting product works for some nano creators, though it rarely includes a licence to run the video as a paid ad.

What should I check before hiring a UGC creator?

Watch three or four recent samples for on-camera delivery. Check engagement against their follower tier, the shape of their follower growth, whether comments reference the post and where the audience lives. Confirm reply speed and past brand work. Then confirm in writing exactly which usage rights the price includes.
